Beware the Ides of March – Crochet Edition

March 15, 2018 by Robin, Avon Rep and Owner at Imperial Crochet

I don’t usually put much stock into bad luck theories.  I offer as proof the fact that I own and have owned black cats all of my adult life and I’m pretty sure that during that time I’ve walked in front of and/or tripped over at least one of them several hundred times.

My beloved Tim. He was about 17 years old here. Gone but never forgotten.

That’s why this morning when the downstairs toilet overflowed as my husband was showering upstairs, I didn’t immediately think of today as a bad luck day until later on when I went on Facebook to escape the situation for a few moments and learned that today is what’s known as the Ides of March.

It turns out that the Ides of March became notorious all the way back in 44 BC because it’s the date of the assassination of Julius Caesar.

The actual quote is from Shakespeare’s tragedy Julius Caesar (1599). The warning is uttered by a soothsayer who is letting Roman leader Julius Caesar know that his life is in danger, and he should probably stay home and be careful when March 15th, the Ides of March, rolls around.

Anyway, that’s the inspiration for today’s, three fun Etsy finds.

BEWARE that this Ides of March post contains affiliate links!  You can read my full disclosure HERE.  And as always, I did not create any of the following items.  I can not vouch for their quality and I do not own the photos shown here.  I’m simply sharing them for your viewing pleasure.

So, how’s your Ides of March going?  I truly hope that your day started out better than mine did.  But in the words of… I don’t know who said this first. I couldn’t find a definitive answer but, This too shall pass.

At least I hope our trouble passes as soon as my husband gets home with the 50-foot snake he said we need to use to fix our plumbing problems today.

Wish us luck!

These are funny! I hope these Etsy items find a way to be sold as they deserve to be bought. The Julius Caesar buttons are certainly a niche type of item although I suppose they’d go nicely with the amigurumi centurion!

My birthday is the 15th and the Ides of March thing never bothered me but I have to admit the last 2 years this day has been filled with mishaps! Let’s hope next year is better 😀

  4. I kept hearing about the ides of March, but I didn’t know what it meant or that it was supposed to be bad luck!
