Ernest Shackleton Inspires Me

June 9, 2017 by Robin, Avon Rep and Owner at Imperial Crochet

I love musicals.  Unfortunately, I don’t live in New York anymore but thanks to Broadway South and the (sometimes) live-streaming BroadwayHD site, I’ve gotten to see a few live performances.  The latest one was the off-Broadway live stream of Ernest Shackleton Loves Me.

This was like nothing I’ve ever seen before.  It was highly imaginative, quirky, a-bit-zany, well-acted, creative, fun, funny, and most of all for me, extremely inspirational.

The story revolves around a single musician mom trying to come to terms with her lifestyle and life choices when she meets the dead-for-almost-a-century explorer, Ernest Shackleton.

I had never heard of him before so I googled him after the show and sure enough, he was real and he was amazing.

“Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton (15 February 1874 – 5 January 1922) was a polar explorer who led three British expeditions to the Antarctic, and one of the principal figures of the period known as the Heroic Age of Antarctic Exploration.”

His greatest expedition was a failure but is regarded as an “epic feat of endurance.”

In fact, his Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, is also known as the Endurance Expedition.  And by the way, the ship he was on was also named the Endurance.  You can (and should) read all about his incredible story but the gist of the show was that he endured.  He remained an optimist throughout and was able to beat the odds and save his men from a terrible fate because he absolutely refused to give up.

And what does all of this have to do with a crochet blog?

Not much really.  But for those of us trying to start our own business, online or off, crochet or anything else, or for those of us starting a blog, or writing a book, or doing whatever it is that moves us, that maybe seems a bit hard (or even impossible) to do, a little bit of Ernest’s optimism and never-quit attitude is a good thing.

And I wanted to share that important message with all of you.

Never give up.  Use your passion to get where you want to be and most of all remain optimistic.

Let Ernest Shackleton inspire you too!

Oh Geez Robin – I think this post made me realize that I’ve been watching too many documentaries because I knew who Shackleton was! LOL!! Documentaries are the best tv to watch when crocheting!! 😀
